Review for Clarity by Kim Harrington

"Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift. And a curse. When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case--but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother--who has supernatural gifts of his own--becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?" I loved this book and I wasn’t entirely expecting to. I picked up Clarity purely based on all the hype for it around the blogosphere without really knowing what it was about. I picked it up on a whim and read the first two pages and that was it that was all it took, I was addicted. I instantly liked Clare and was eager to know more. I definitely didn’t choose this book it seemed to choose me. I think that what I loved most about Clarity was how easy and fun it was to read. It didn’t take itself too seriously and is completely different to other books about psychic abilities. This book is set in the middle of summer in a busy tourist town by the beach. That’s right folks no quiet, gloomy, small town with rain and forests. This book was part fun summer read part murder mystery something I never thought would go together but it does and it works. It’s definitely a quirky read and I loved the fresh originality of it. Clare is such a likeable heroine she’s funny, smart and her character is a big part of what drew me into this story. She has me laughing only two pages in and there’s just something really endearing and likeable about her. I loved every single character in this book especially Perry Clare’s older brother. Kim Harrington has her own special gift at creating these hugely likeable, fun characters. When I wasn’t in fits of giggles over Clare and her family’s kooky psychic goings on I was glued to the pages desperate to know who the killer was and it came as a real shock when we do eventually find out. Like Clare I suspected many people along the way and when the truth was revealed I thought it was brilliant things tied together nicely in a really clever way. I’m usually pretty good as guessing the who done it aspect of these kind of books but Clarity really surprised me. I loved everything about this book it literally is a book that has everything. Great characters, an original plot, excellent writing, a hot romance it was just brilliant and was so fun and exciting to read. One minute my heart was pounding terrified by the killer the next I was cracking up over something Clare has said or done. Fans of books like The Body Finder are going to love this and I think it’s the perfect book to pick up this summer. Clarity totally deserves all the hype it’s been getting and I’m so glad that I read it. I believe that it’s the first in a series and I cannot wait for my next fix. If you only have the money to buy one book right now it should be Clarity, I can’t see how anybody would be disappointed with this fantastic debut. My Rating 5/5 stars ***** Synopsis taken from goodreads
