In My Mailbox the 4th
In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren
Hey guys, after last weeks HUGE haul I only got 4 books this week. I’m really excited about all of them though. Leave me a Mr. Linky with what books you got this week in the comments.
All descriptions are taken from either Amazon or Goodreads.
First book in my mailbox this week was bright and early on Monday The Karma Club by Jessica Brody. I really like our UK cover for this it looks fun and summery.
The Karma Club by Jessica Brody
"Personally, I’m tired of waiting for the universe to get off its butt and start fixing stuff. I don’t want to wait around for Mason to get what’s coming to him. Or Heather Campbell, for that matter . . . I want to be there to see it happen."
Madison Kasparkova always thought she understood how Karma works. It’s that mysterious, powerful force that brings harmony to the universe. You know—do good things and you will be rewarded, do something bad and Karma will make sure you get what’s coming to you. A sort of cosmic balancing act.
But when Mason Brooks, Maddy’s boyfriend of two years, gets caught tongue-wrestling with Miss Perfect Body Heather Campbell, and absolutely nothing happens to either of them—except that they wind up the hot new couple of Colonial High School, it seems like Karma has officially left Maddy in the lurch. That’s why Maddy and her best friends, Angie and Jade, decide to start the Karma Club—a secret, members-only organization whose sole purpose is to clean up the messes that the universe has been leaving behind. Whether they’re modifying Heather Campbell’s acne cream as part of “Operation Butterface,” or righting a few wrongs when it comes to Angie and Jade’s own slimy exes, they know they’re just doing what Karma should have done in the first place. They’re taking care of one another.
Sometimes, though, it isn’t wise to meddle with the universe. Because it turns out, when you mess with Karma, Karma messes back. Now Maddy must find a way to balance her life for good, even as everything around her seems to be toppling to the ground.
The next book I was so excited to get and am currently reading it now and loving it Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
In SHIVER, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in LINGER, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping dangerous secrets. For Sam, it means grappling with his werewolf past ... and figuring out a way to survive the future. But just when they manage to find happiness, Grace finds herself changing in ways she could never have expected...
Then I got this book after my good friend Rachel read it, gave it 5 stars and commanded me to buy it! Plus I love me some dystopia! This has such amazing reviews I'm dieing to read it. Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman
Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman
Sephy is a Cross - a member of the dark-skinned ruling class. Callum is a nought - a 'colourless' member of the underclass who were once slaves to the Crosses. The two have been friends since early childhood. But that's as far as it can go. Until the first steps are taken towards more social equality and a limited number of Noughts are allowed into Cross schools...Against a background of prejudice and distrust, intensely highlighted by violent terrorist activity by Noughts, a romance builds between Sephy and Callum - a romance that is to lead both of them into terrible danger...
This ones a new book that only just came out this week I believe. It sounded like something I’d enjoy as I love books about road trips. Take Me There by Carolee Dean
Take Me There by Carolee Dean
Seventeen-year-old Dylan's father is about to be executed for shooting a policeman 11 years earlier, and Dylan is determined to get to his dad's Texas prison to say goodbye. Dylan and his friend are also on the run: from the police, for violating probation after serving time in juvie, and from gangsters. Dylan's long, first-person narrative spins out a plot that gets more and more convoluted, with dramatic vignettes that flip between past and present as Dylan hides that he can barely read, hooks up with sexy Jess, takes on his fierce grandmother, and confronts his own guilt. Jess is too perfect to be true, but the family secrets create powerful drama. Is Dad protecting someone? Why does Dylan remember handling the gun when he was six years old? What really happened that night? Dylan's doubts reinforce the universal father-son tensions and the horror of capital punishment as tension builds to the execution by lethal injection.
So that's what I got this week, what did you get?
